The impact of ALMA on debris disk research

چکیده
Debris disks are optically thin dust disks around stars produced by ongoing collisions of planetesimals left over from the planet formation process. They help us to improve our understanding of the formation and evolution of planetary systems. Our Herschel open time key program DUNES (DUst around NEarby Stars) aims at detecting debris disks with a fractional luminosity similar to the Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt (EKB) level around a volume limited sample (d < 25 pc) of FGK stars. We present observations of the DUNES science demonstration object qEri and ilustrate the need of ALMA observations. In addition, we present a study on the observability of the planet-disk interaction in debris disks with ALMA, a multi-wavelength study of the debris disk around HD107146 and the impact of ALMA observations on this object, as well as three debris disks with unusual spectral energy distributions, revealed by DUNES observations. We present a CO(2-1) and 1240μm continuum survey of 23 debris disks with spectral types B9-G1, observed at an angular resolution of 0. ′′5-1” with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). The sample was selected for large infrared excess and age ∼10 Myr, to characterize the prevalence of molecular gas emission in young debris disks. We identify three CO-rich debris disks, plus t...

We present high spatial resolution observations and detailed multi-wavelength modeling of the structure and composition of two prominent debris disks and a systematic study on the observability of planet-disk interaction in debris disks with present and future instruments. As the spatial structure of debris disks is, in addition to stellar gravity and radiation, mainly influenced by planet-disk...

متن کاملHigh-resolution Simulations of a Moon-forming Impact and Post-impact Evolution
In order to examine the “giant impact hypothesis” for the Moon formation, we run the first grid-based, high-resolution hydrodynamic simulations for an impact between proto-Earth and a proto-planet. The spatial resolution for the impact-generated disk is greatly improved from previous particle-based simulations. This allows us to explore fine structures of a circumterrestrial debris disk and its...
متن کاملHerschel HIFI observations of ionised carbon in the β Pictoris debris disk ?
Context. The dusty debris disk around the ∼20 Myr old main-sequence A-star β Pictoris is known to contain gas. Evidence points towards a secondary origin of the gas as opposed to being a direct remnant from the initial protoplanetary disk, although the dominant gas production mechanism is so far not identified. The origin of the observed overabundance of C and O compared with solar abundances o...
